Clay’s curative properties have been known since the ancient times. Clay has natural healing properties which can cure skin conditions and bowel disorders. Clays, like green clay and white clay, are just some of the most popular medicinal clays used today.

Anal fissure is a tear in the anal lining that produces symptoms of pain, rectal bleeding, and itchiness. Anal tear is usually caused by mechanical trauma such as passage of large bulk of stool through the anal canal. The hardened stool scratches the anal lining and eventually forms a tear. Chronic constipation and diarrhea can also contribute to the formation of anal tear.

Bentonite or Green Clay is a medicinal clay which can treat skin disorders, infection, and bowel conditions. It is a natural substance derived from volcanic ash. Bentonite can be applied topically or be ingested. As a treatment for anal fissure, green clay is usually used as a laxative to smoothen the passage of stool along the anal canal. Bentonite clay is usually mixed with psyllium fiber and ingested. The mixture is made by adding 1 teaspoon of liquid bentonite clay to psyllium husk. In a small container, stir the mixture in eight ounces of water. Make sure to drink the mixture immediately. Afterwards, drink a glass of water to further push the mixture into the gastrointestinal tract. It is also very important to drink eight glasses of water throughout the day to keep the body well-hydrated when adhering to such treatment regimen. Green clay can act as a natural cleanser by absorbing the toxins inside the body and eventually expelling them through the feces. Bentonite clay can help people with anal fissure to treat constipation.

White Clay or Kaolin Clay are usually used for cosmetic purposes. It is used to detoxify and nourish the skin. The white clay has high silica content that can remove dead skin cells from the body and stimulate regeneration. Besides its skin-detoxifying properties, Kaolin clay can also be used to treat irritable bowel conditions. In fact, it is used to treat diarrhea and constipation. White clay absorbs the toxins in the gastrointestinal tract and passes them out of the body.

Besides clay, Dead Sea salt can also be used as effective treatment for constipation. Dead Sea salt (not Dead Sea mud) is best used in detoxifying the body. This comes from the Dead Sea at Israel, 1300 feet below the ground. It has been known that this kind of salt is very rich in minerals and has detoxifying properties. Dead Sea salt can be bought from local health stores. The detoxifying mixture can be done by dissolving a tablespoon of Dead Sea salt in eight cups of water. Lemon can be added to the mixture to mask the taste of the salt. The mixture should be ingested early in the morning.

Although using clay medicine or taking Dead Sea salt can help cure gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea and constipation, it is still best to consult a doctor before trying these remedies. Such natural treatment regimens may address the risk factors of anal fissure such as constipation and diarrhea. However, there are no clear indications that these regimens can directly cure anal fissures.
